Keep Discovering!
Borovets is situated on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountain at an altitude of 1350 metres. The resort enjoys a perfect location right at the foot of Mount Moussala (2925 metres), the highest peak on the Balkans. Only 72 km away from Sofia and just 126 km away from Plovdiv, Borovets is easily accessible from all parts of Bulgaria.
The well-developed lift network of Borovets carries up to 15,600 tourists per hour and provides quick access to the ski runs.
The mountain slopes total over 40 km and have a lasting snow cover of over 1.5 metres from November till May. They vary in degree of difficulty and are suitable for tourists at all skill levels. For skiers’ safety, all ski runs are marked with signs in several languages, according to the international standards.
Snowmaking and good grooming can change a good day on the slopes into a great day. To offer you the ultimate snow experience, the resort have 2 km of ski runs in the heart of Borovets maintained by six snow cannons that cover the area with artificial snow that grooms better and lasts longer than natural snow.
Beginners
The Borovets ski school enjoys an excellent reputation. You get 4 hours instruction, 6 days a week (2 hours a day for cross country) and the friendly, helpful instructors make learning a pleasure and success guaranteed. Beginners start the week on the nursery slopes outside hotel Rila but by the end of the week everyone is heading for the gondola lift and the more challenging runs at the top of the Yastrebets Mountain.
Intermediates
The choices for the intermediates are wide and various, with excellent skiing in the exciting Yastrebets and Sitnyakovo areas. The well-planned lift system includes the 5 km, 6-person Yastrebets gondola lift, which opens up a wealth of enjoyable runs, ranging from wide sunny boulevards in the Moussala basin, to scenic looping trails through the trees. From the gondola taking you to the top you can try one of the longest downhill run in Bulgaria, as well as some great skiing on the slopes of the wind-free basin underneath Moussala peak.
Advanced
Advanced skiers can test their skills on the World Cup Competition run and enjoy skiing on the more difficult intermediate runs. There are opportunities for off-piste enthusiasts and altogether there are more than enough diversions available to keep the most avid "professional" busy.
Snowboarding
Snowboard enthusiasts, make sure you try the Rotata half-pipe. With a vertical drop of 320 m, the run was designed to satisfy both advanced riders in its upper end and beginners in its lower end. To make your snowboarding even more enjoyable, we have equipped Rotata with its own drag.
Board hire and lessons are available throughout the resort for ages 13+ years. See price grid for details.

Après-ski
Truly speaking, Borovets is as well known for its great nightlife as it is for its fantastic skiing, and there are very few other places around where you can stay out until 4 in the morning at prices which are a lot less than you would expect to pay in a club back home. For those who prefer their nightlife a little more subdued and perhaps have a yearning to learn about Bulgaria’s varied folk traditions, there are regular folklore evenings and even a visit to a genuine Bulgarian home for a taste of home cooking and entertainment. The main nightclubs are at the Samokov and Rila hotels where you will find music to dance the night away and, as an added bonus, spectacular cabarets and floorshows are thrown in on top to make the evening truly memorable.
Excursions
If you have aching limbs after a few days on the slopes, why not try one of our excursions. You can take a full or half day trip to Sofia, Plovdiv or the fascinating Rila Monastery. A Skidoo Safari is great fun. A trained operator takes you through the wood trails of the resort, after that you can have a go! Please book all excursions through your Balkan Holidays representative.
