During the upcoming season Bansko will have the honour of hosting the FIS Ski World Cup Bansko 2009 event which will take place between the 22nd February and the 1st of March. After 25 years away from the international ski scene, Bulgaria is returning to the world ski stage by hosting two events of the Womens' World Ski Cup.

On the 28th of February and the 1st of March 2009 we will see the Downhill and a Super Giant Slalom take place on the Banderitsa Track in Bansko. These are two of the most attractive and exciting events in Alpine skiing and will pose a big challenge for both Bulgarian competitors and the world's leading skiers.

Winning the opportunity to host the Womens' World Cup with stiff competition from other contenders is the highest accolade Bulgaria could receive from the World Ski Federation.

The hosting of this event may be viewed as recognition of the substantial efforts which Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Ski Federation have made to make Bulgarian ski resorts and recreational skiing more popular during the past few years, as well as encouraging the development of professional adult and junior skiing.

The Bulgarian Ski Federation intends to draw the sporting world's attention to Bulgaria, and to stimulate and sustain future generations' interest in recreational and professional skiing.

Hosting the Womens' World Cup will guarantee Bulgaria's permanent presence in the world of ski sports.

In Bulgaria the rights for live broadcasting are given to the Bulgarian National Television and the satellite TV channel Bulgaria.

The World Cup competitions are with some of the highest viewers' rating in the world and broadcasting the World Ski Cup from Bansko will cause enormous interest. That would attract many viewers to ski sports in Bulgaria thus helping for its popularisation throughout the country.

The competition will be organised by the Bulgarian Ski Federation, Bulgarian Ski Pool Ltd., with the support of the State Agency for Youth and Sport and the Municipality of Bansko. The event will be broadcast live by the Bulgarian National Television (who hold these rights) and on satellite channel 'Bulgaria'.
