Dubrovnik Islands Adventure - Walking Tour
Dubrovnik, Croatia
New Addition to our Programme
2 Centre Holidays

Dubrovnik, well known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic", is an extraordinary destination. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Town was built in the 13th century and remains almost intact to the present day. This tour has been designed for experiencing the outstanding beauty of the Dubrovnik Riviera and the nearby islands, while offering revitalising daily walks accompanied by local experts. Ascend by cable car high above Dubrovnik for unsurpassed views of the city. Stroll on the palm lined promenade in Cavtat, a firm favourite of British tourists for many years. Enjoy ferry journeys to the islands of Elafiti archipelago to discover picturesque harbours, rolling olive groves and secluded trails along turquoise green waters of the Adriatic. End your adventure at lushly wooded Mljet, a truly stunning island that combines wonderful beaches with an abundance of gloriously rich flora in its National Park, giving it the feel and appearance of the Garden of Eden.

Day 1 Sunday: Arrival

Arrive from the UK and settle at your hotel in Dubrovnik. Welcome meeting at the hotel at 7pm.

Day 2 Monday: Mt. Srd & Cavtat

Towering over Dubrovnik to the north, the 412 metre Mount Srd peak offers the most breathtaking views of the walled city below. Upon ascent by scenic ride on a cable car, gently stroll on the stone plateau while taking in panoramas of the rugged coast stretching as far as Peljesac peninsula. There is ample time to visit Fort Imperial, built by Napoleon’s soldiers in 1812 before we arrive by mini-bus to the picturesque fishing village of Cavtat. Originally an ancient Greek settlement with turbulent history, Cavtat is nowadays a popular tourist resort. Our 8km walk starts at the central promenade, then follows the shoreline of the untouched Sustjepan Peninsula. There is an en-route visit to the Racic Mausoleum, perched high above the town amidst cypress trees and pine groves and offering stunning views of the harbour. Evening at leisure and overnight in Dubrovnik.

Walk duration: 4 hours • Level of difficulty: moderate

Day 3 Tuesday: Kolocep Island

In the morning we embark a local ferry for a 25 minute journey to the island of Kolocep, known for its dramatic scenery with rocky beaches that are overlooked by sheer cliffs. Our trail leads through wonderfully preserved romantic Mediterranean hamlets and villages, passes numerous remnants of carefully preserved period architecture, including a romantic chapel, ramparts of the old basilica and Napoleon's fortifications, to name but a few. A pleasant afternoon siesta is enjoyed in a fairytale serene setting of Gornje Celo bay, near one of the best fish restaurants in the area. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Walk duration: 3.5 hours • Level of difficulty: moderate

Day 4 Wednesday: Dubrovnik City Tour

Justly enjoying UNESCO protectorate, Dubrovnik is nicknamed “The Pearl of the Adriatic” and today you will find out why by joining our guided tour of the Old Town. Make your own way in the morning to Pile Gate where you will be met by our local expert guide. We navigate through a cobweb of narrow streets and alleys of the Old Town, as our guide reveals lesser known chapters of Dubrovnik's long and colourful history. Afternoon is spent at leisure exploring the rest of the city independently or relaxing on the beaches of nearby Lokrum island. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Walk duration: 1.5 hours • Level of difficulty: easy

Day 5 Thursday: Lopud Island

With only a few hundred permanent residents, Lopud is a traffic free island retreat reached by a 55 minute ferry ride. Lopud prides itself not only for the most beautiful sandy beaches in the area, but also for a virtually self sufficient food chain with local meat and seafood production and the growing of it's own organic vegetables and fruits such as lemons, oranges and kiwis. We explore Lopud on foot, leisurely rambling through mature olive groves and lavender fields, past pristine monasteries and churches, before reaching the observation point that was used to protect the island's safety. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Walk duration: 4 hours • Level of difficulty: moderate

Day 6 Friday: Sipan Island

This day is dedicated to discovering the largest of the Elafiti Islands – Sipan. A scenic 80 minute sail unveils Dubrovnik's rugged coast and colourful villages of the surrounding archipelago before reaching the main port Luka sipanska where we commence our adventure. There is some real Mediterranean countryside to enjoy while we trek past an abundance of historical monuments - chapels, monasteries, palaces and summer houses of ancient Dubrovnik aristocracy. This island has an enormous wealth of cultural heritage and tales from the past are told as we make brief stops and explore preserved monuments that witnessed Sipan's turbulent history. There is ample time to rest and unwind in friendly cafes or at one of the local beaches before returning to your base. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Walk duration: 4 hours • Level of difficulty: moderate

Day 7 Saturday: Mljet Island National Park

Today we enjoy a peaceful 90 minute boat ride to Mljet Island weaving through picturesque Elafiti archipelago. Mljet hosts the only national park in the region and is covered by a dense, green woodlands to the north. The park is known for its two beautiful salt water lakes within, one with a 14th century monastery perched on a tiny islet. We ramble through the National Park taking popular trekking routes, before being generously rewarded by a swim in the warm lake and short boat ride to St Mary’s island monastery. Overnight in Dubrovnik.
