Romania Holidays

Romania is situated in the southeastern part of Central Europe and shares borders with Hungary to the northwest, Serbia to the southwest, Bulgaria to the south, the Black Sea to the southeast, Ukraine to the east and to the north and the Republic of Moldova to the east. Its capital is the city of Bucharest.

The majestic Southern Carpathian Mountains that cut through Romania have long been popular with international tourists heading for the skillfully prepared slopes, desperate to try a new skiing destination.

"Romania is famous for being home to Europe's highest population of Brown Bears and home to over a third of all European plant species the Carpathians are now becoming more recognised for their fantastic up and coming ski and snowboard resorts. Without doubt Romania's most popular and most developed ski resort is Poiana Brasov, which continues to grow each year in popularity due to its continued investment in its infrastructure, while still remaining fantastic value for money.

Romania is the perfect choice if you are looking to escape the crowds that have become common place in other resorts across Europe and the Alps.

Beginners

Poiana Brasov is perfect for beginners. The nursery slopes are wide and gentle and there is a plateau at the top of the mountain. The excellent English speaking ski instructors make learning great fun, and normally there are about 10-12 people appointed to each class. At the end of the learning week most beginners are able to ski at the blue run from the top of the Christianu Mare all the way down to the village.

Intermediates

This is a good resort for intermediate skiers to improve their skills as the blue runs are not too testing and not too crowded, great for perfecting your parallel turn. Try the red runs that take you over varied terrain. Please make the most of the excellent ski school.

Advanced

Advanced skiers will find skiing limited as there are only a few black runs at this resort.

Ski Lifts

There is a well maintained system of ski lifts, open daily from 09:00 am - 09:00 pm. Each cable car is closed for one day per week for maintenance.

Night Skiing

Floodlights have been installed on the lower slopes so that you can enjoy your skiing until 9 o'clock in the evenings. This gives you the chance to enjoy the apres-ski until late at night, have a lie in and still get a full day's skiing!

Apres-ski

Poiana Brasov is fun, lively and great value for money. There is a wide range of bars, restaurants and discos to choose from, open until late in the evening. For an authentic Romanian evening we recommend an evening at either 'Dacian's Lounge' or 'The Outlaws Hut'. Both restaurants have a lively atmosphere with Romanian folk music and serve delicious and plentiful cuisine.

Excursions & Other Activities

Dracula's Castle - a day out to really get your teeth into! Legend has it that Count Dracula, the mediaeval Prince of Transylvania, lived in Bran Castle. A fantastic trip with lunch at Moeciu. City tour of Brasov with its fascinating historic centre is just 13 km away from the resort. Peles Castle: This was the former residence of the Romanian Royal Family. Set in beautiful surroundings, with the breathtaking interior. We recommend this for a half day visit. Wine tasting at the "Carpathian Stag" restaurant and wine cellar alongside folk music, dancing and Romanian cuisine.
