Lopud Island, which forms part of the Elaphiti Islands, is famous for having one of the best beaches in the Dubrovnik region. It's composed of fine, white sand and is backed by lush, green hills. The main settlement is the port of Lopud which has a number of cafes, restaurants and hotels. Lopud island was once an important seafaring centre, boasting two monasteries, 30 churches and a number of noble palaces but little remains today.
