Balkan Holidays, the leading tour operator to Eastern Europe, has surveyed some of its regular customers about visiting Montenegro, and has put together this handy guide if you are planning a visit to the country next summer:

  • Montenegro is a young country with a population of just 650,000. Named after the 'black' dark forests that are located in the country, Montenegro is in the Eurozone

  • Montenegro is a compact country which still packs a punch, as well as offering gorgeous beaches on the Adriatic coast, the visitor can explore ancient stone villages, experience the dramatic fjord-like Bay of Kotor or take in stunning mountain scenery and pine forests

  • The resort of Sveti Stefan, which was a playground for celebrities and Royalty between the 1960’s and 80’s, has in recent times been the subject of substantial investment and is once again a glamorous destination. This summer tennis ace Novak Djokovic got married in the resort

  • Temperatures in the Summer hit an average 30C with sea temperatures of up to 26C

  • Montenegro is famous for its watersports, choose from scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, canoeing, rafting and fishing

  • You can visit the monastery at Cetinje, which is believed to have the mummified hand of John the Baptist in its safe keeping

  • Wildlife lovers may like to know that wolves and brown bears are sometimes spotted in the hills. Skadar Lake is the biggest in the Balkans and has one of the largest bird sanctuaries, home for hundreds of bird species including puffins and cormorant

  • For culture seekers, Montenegro boasts many ancient monasteries including the spectacular Ostrog Monastery, built into the mountainside and a destination for pilgrims from around the world

  • Dine out in Montenegro and you can enjoy wonderful fish dishes, speciality ham and cheeses. Local wines and beer are good quality

  • Balkan Holidays offers seven night breaks in Sveti Stefan/Przno, Budva and Becici and Petrovac, Montenegro. Two country holidays combining Montenegro and Dubrovnik, Croatia, are also available.

Balkan Holidays, which has been operating holidays to Eastern Europe for 49 years, has seven nights in Montenegro staying at three star Hotel & Apartments Alexander, Budva, flying from Gatwick on 20 May 2015 and staying on a half board basis. The cost from £385 per person is based on three people sharing and includes return flights and transfers.

Mrs. Joy, Sunny Beach
Good food, good hotel, good resort

Mr. David Stanley
Just a note to let you know that we have now returned home to Australia and to thank you again for arranging our holiday program. Everything went smoothly, and we enjoyed the tour very much. Tour, transfers, hotels and the tour guide were all great. The Le Meridien at Lav was particularly memorable, with hotel Riva at Hvar also very nice. Weather was a bit variable but didn't stop us seeing anything and we did get quite a bit of sunshine in any event. So thanks again for the great service and I'll definately recommend your company to friends.

Mr. Davies, Borovets
Great holiday will do it again.

Ms. Harriot, Nessebar

Mrs. Burrows, Albena
I am nearly 60 years of age and this is the most wonderful holiday I have ever had. It was pure magic, absolutely wonderful. A first class holiday. Every aspect of holiday was of very high standard
