Scheduled boat trips to the Island of St Anastasia off the coast of Bulgaria’s Black Sea city of Bourgas will begin in May 2014, with trips five times a day, Bourgas Municipality have confirmed. Return tickets will cost 9 leva (£4) and 6 leva (£2.50) for students and senior citizens, while children under seven and people with disabilities will be able to travel free. St Anastasia Island is approximately 6.5km south-east of Bourgas, between Cape St Anastasia and Cape Atia. Albena to Unveil a New Aquapark Published: 17 May 2016
The Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Albena will unveil a brand new aquapark on July 1st 2014. Once opened the Aquapark will offer its visitors more than 600 meters of water slides and a fun, action packed children's section. Lovka Strashilova, Deputy Sales Director of Albena AD said "The Aquapark opening will form part of the 45th anniversary celebrations of the resort and is one of a kind for the country." The British footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones will appear in the upcoming second season of the Bulgarian reality show Kurtitsata (The Mole). The 49yr old former Wimbledon, Leeds United and Chelsea man became famous as a Hollywood tough guy after his playing days for his roles in movie blockbusters such as “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”, “Snatch” and "Escape Plan". The Deputy Minister of Economy in charge of Tourism, Branimir Botev says Bulgaria ranks fourth in Europe by the rate of development of winter tourism. Speaking at a meeting with the international media present at the World Travel Market exhibition in London last week Botev said "During the past winter, the country has been visited by over 1 million tourists, which is an increase of 8.2%. Hopes are for this positive trend to continue during the 2013-2014 season". Approximately 80% of holidaymakers who visit Bulgaria approve of the country’s full smoking ban in enclosed public spaces, according to a local tourists association. Chair of the Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents, Bayko Baykov, expressed his support on Monday for continuing with the full smoking ban. “It is not true that the turnover of establishments has decreased. What European tourists want is to have holidays in a clean environment and enjoy a clean nature,” Baykov said. We are delighted to learn that our Charter Airline company Balkan Holidays Airlines (BH Air) has been chosen by the Bulgarian government as the official carrier between Bulgaria and Iraq. The cabinet has authorized the airline to fly routes as agreed in the Agreement on Air Transport between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the Republic of Iraq, which was signed on the 15th November 1966 in Sofia. Yesterday was a landmark day for the city of Varna as the new passenger terminal at Varna Airport on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast came in to full use, 12 days after its official opening. As of 3pm, all arrivals and departures began passing through the new terminal, announced by the airport on its website. The first serviced domestic flight was to Sofia with the national carrier "Bulgaria Air" while the first international passengers served in the new Varna Airport terminal came from Minsk with the aviation company “Belavia”.
