The BBC recently ran a competition looking into the future, to find out what it holds for health, education, transport and even love. Titled "What If?" the BBC asked people from around Europe to send in their visions of the future. The theme was open to individual interpretation and could be presented in any visual medium the participant chose to use (photography, animation, artwork, film) but entries must have had visions of the future as their core message. Baba Marta (Баба Марта in Bulgarian) is known as 'Grandma March Day' and is a holiday celebrated in Bulgaria on the 1st day of March. Bulgarians wear an item called a Martenitsa, usually in the form of a wrist band which is woven by binding red and white coloured threads together. The Martenitsa are not only worn on the day to celebrate the holiday but also through the month of March until a stork or a bloomed tree is seen which symbolizes warmer weather and good health. The International Jazz Festival in Bansko - probably the biggest summer musical event in Bulgaria was founded in 1998 and is held every year in the sunny month of August.
