COVID-19 (Coronavirus) - Travel Advice

23 July 2020 - Blue Insurance Update

The policy will now provide Cancellation Cover if you are diagnosed with Covid-19 and have to cancel your trip.
   
  • The policy will cover cancellation or curtailment of the trip because You, Your Close Relative or Your Travelling companion has been Medically diagnosed with Coronavirus or is personally instructed to quarantine by the NHS or a healthcare professional.
  • Medical expenses abroad if you or your travelling companion contracts Covid-19.
The policy will exclude claims arising within 7 days of the date you purchased this insurance or the time of booking any trip, whichever is the later, except where the insurance is purchased within 48hours of booking the trip.

Please note that any new policy will not cover cancellation due to government lockdown or travel restrictions imposed by the FCO or if they are advised to self-isolate without a positive Covid diagnosis. The policy will also not cover you abroad if you travel against the advice of the FCO.

02 July 2020 - Update

It is with the deepest of regret that we write to inform you that we have taken the heartbreaking decision to cancel the remainder of all our Bulgaria charter flights and holidays this summer.

Such decisions are never easy, but with the ongoing uncertainty over whether or not we can offer you a holiday this summer, I feel that this is the right thing to do. Your holiday experience with us should be the best possible, but we do not believe that we could deliver that this season with all the restrictions in place. We want to assure you that the enjoyment of your holiday as well as your health, safety and well-being remains of paramount importance to us.

As we are sure you can appreciate during this difficult time our call centre and social media teams are extremely busy so please do not contact us unless absolutely necessary. All available options will be clearly explained in the letter sent to you with further details on how to proceed.

We wish to thank you for your incredible support and understanding you have shown us throughout this difficult period. We will now together start looking forward to Summer 2021 and hope that you will join us next year when we can once again enjoy the beautiful beach resorts that we all love.

 

17 June 2020 - Update

In our ongoing effort to ensure the very best for our customers, we are pleased to announce admin free changes are now available to all flight only customers travelling this summer who are themselves shielded or have a shielded person travelling on their booking.

We understand those who are most vunerable should not be expected to travel so if you have booked directly with us please email res@balkanholidays.co.uk with your reference number and a copy of your shielding letter from the NHS and we will contact you to assist with moving your flights to 2021. If you have booked through a travel agent, please ask your travel agent to contact us providing the same information.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 Coronavirus situation we have taken the difficult decision to extend the cancellation of our Bulgaria charter holidays and flights up to and including the 15th July 2020.

All charter package holiday, flight and accommodation only customers affected by this cancellation will be contacted directly by our Customer Service team shortly with available options which includes re-booking to a later departure. If you have booked through a travel agent we will be in touch with your travel agent. Please wait for further information from them.

18 May - July Flight Only Update

In our ongoing effort to go further and do more for our customers, we are delighted to announce a new policy for July 2020 Bulgaria charter flight only customers. If you have booked a Bulgaria charter flight with us either direct or through one of our travel agent partners, you are now able to change your flight to a later date in either 2020 or 2021 free of admin charges. You will only be required to pay any difference in flight price.

For direct customers, please call our friendly team on 0207 543 5555 to change your July 2020 flights. If you have booked through one of our travel agent partners, please contact them to have your flights changed.

If you are a Bulgaria charter flight only customer travelling on or after 1st August 2020, please check back here for updates. We thank you for your patience and continued support.

22 April - June Flight Only Update

We are pleased to update our Flexible Payment terms to now include ALL existing Summer 2020 Bulgaria package holiday bookings made through our travel agent partners or direct.

We can confirm that for all existing Summer 2020 bookings, the balance due date is now just 4 weeks before departure. Should you wish to cancel your Bulgaria package holiday booking, the cancellation charges will be loss of deposit up to 4 weeks prior to departure, after this time, our standard cancellation charges will apply.

If you have booked directly with us you do not need to contact us to have these changes applied to your booking, it is automatically applied. If you have booked through a travel agent please contact them to confirm.

Alternatively, you can change the date of your existing Bulgaria package holiday up to 14 days before departure, with no admin fee.

We are sorry that these options are not available for flight only bookings.

30 March 2020 - Update

We are pleased to update our Flexible Payment terms for all new Bulgaria package holiday bookings made before 30th April 2020 and all existing summer 2020 Bulgaria package holiday bookings departing in May and June 2020 made through our travel agent partners or direct.
 
Following a decision from ABTA we can confirm that for all new bookings made before 30th April 2020 and all existing summer 2020 bookings departing in May and June 2020, the balance due date is now just 4 weeks before departure.

Should you wish to cancel your Bulgaria package holiday booking, the cancellation charges will be loss of deposit up to 4 weeks prior to departure, after this time, our standard cancellation charges will apply.

23 March 2020 - June Departures Update

Further to our update on the 17th March regarding May departures, we are pleased to announce we have now amended the cancellation terms for all direct customers who have booked a Bulgaria package holiday with us departing in June 2020 as well.

This means that if you are travelling in June, you could cancel your booking up to 4 weeks before travel, without paying normal cancellation fees. These are normally charged 10 weeks before travel. If you cancel up to 4 weeks before your holiday, you will only lose your deposit.

We trust that this flexible change will give those travelling during these months additional peace of mind and allow you more time to consider your options before your departure.

With regret, we are not able to offer this benefit for flight only. If you have booked through one of our Travel Agent partners, you need to contact them to discuss your options.

 

17 March 2020 - Update

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) have updated their travel advice for Bulgaria in line with the Bulgarian Government's temporary decision to suspend all arrivals from the UK until April 13th. As we do not have any holidays or flights departing during this period, we do not yet have any updated advice for our departures starting in May and they will proceed as planned until the advice changes for our summer 20 programme.

In light of the above, we have now amended the cancellation terms for all direct customers who have booked a Bulgaria package holiday with us departing in May. Anyone travelling in May will now no longer be subject to our standard cancellation fees until 4 weeks before departure, before this time it will remain just loss of deposit. We trust that this flexible change will give you additional peace of mind and allow you more time to consider your options before your departure. With regret, we are not able to offer this benefit for flight only. If you have booked through one of our Travel Agent partners, you need to contact them to discuss your options.

Additionally, the UK Government has today advised against all but essential travel globally for an initial period of 30 days. As this does not impact on our summer 20 season starting late May, no changes are necessary at this time.

16 March 2020 - Winter 2019/2020 Holidays Update

Due to the imminent closure of the Bulgaria ski zones across Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo we will be curtailing all holidays and bringing our customers home as soon as possible. Information for the new departure date and time as well as details of the transfer will be provided shortly by our team in resort. If you are in resort with us, please keep in contact with your Balkan Holidays representative for updates.

In addition to this, all holidays and flight only bookings departing between 16th - 21st March 2020 have now been cancelled. We will be in contact with the affected customers shortly and will be issuing full refunds.

13 March 2020 - Update

We are aware of the decision by the Bulgarian Government to declare a state of emergency in Bulgaria for a period of one month, in order to allow legislative changes to the constitution in response to the Covid-19 Coronavirus outbreak. At this time, the FCO has not changed its advice for travel to Bulgaria so all our holidays and flights are planned to operate as normal.

We are also aware of the Croatian Government's decision to quarintine all individuals arriving from the UK for a period of 14 days until further notice. All customers affected by this change will be contacted in due course. We will keep monitoring the situation and provide necessary updates if and when needed.

 

09 March 2020 - New flexible options

At Balkan Holidays everything we do is focused on you, our customer. So with this in mind, we are pleased to announce several changes to our Summer 2020 Bulgaria package holiday bookings to help put you at ease during this period of uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 (Coronvirus) outbreak.
 
For all new Bulgaria Summer 2020 package holidays booked between 9th - 31st March 2020 and travelling in May or June 2020:
 
  • You will now have up until 4 weeks before the departure date to settle the remaining balance, this is reduced from our standard 10 weeks before departure to allow you more flexibility.
  • In addition to our reduced balance due dates, we are also pleased to introduce the option for you to change your May or June holiday to a later Summer 2020 date or Summer 2021 free of charge up until 14 days before departure. You will still be required to pay any difference in holiday cost.

For all existing Bulgaria Summer 2020 package holiday bookings, if you are due to travel with us this summer and are concerned about your holiday, please contact our team on 0207 543 5555 to discuss available options.
 
As the FCO has not changed it's advice regarding travel to any of our destinations, it's business as usual for Balkan Holidays until otherwise advised by the FCO. We will keep monitoring the situation and provide necessary updates if and when needed.

We are aware of a small number of Covid-19 cases that have been announced in Bulgaria today but can assure you it's business as usual with no change to our previous statement until otherwise advised by the FCO. We will keep monitoring the situation and provide necessary updates if and when needed.

Current Situation
The government is not advising against travelling to our destinations at this time. In the unlikely event that the government does change its advice before your holiday with us, advising against all but essential travel, we will be in touch with you to discuss available options. We may offer you an alternative, however you will not be obliged to accept it and can claim a full refund.
