Bulgaria's popular Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach has been crowned the cheapest summer holiday destination for the fourth time, according to new research carried out by Post Office Travel Money.
Famous for its clean seawater and golden Blue Flag awarded 8km stretch of beach, Sunny Beach has been attracting holidaymakers from the UK for over half a century as they seek a great value beach resort offering all the necessities for a memorable summer break.
In the latest Family Holiday Costs Barometer, which is released annually, the value for money resort of Sunny Beach beat 13 other popular destinations that were surveyed when it came to essential holiday items such as a bottle of lager, can of cola, a glass of wine, sun-lounger, sunscreen, insect repellent, a portion of chips, small pizza/pasta and a three-course family meal including drinks.
The total for holiday essentials in Sunny Beach came to just £65.97 - with the portion of chips, just 64p compared to £1.22 in second-placed Costa del Sol.
Croatia has continued to enjoy a surge in popularity during recent years and this was proven once again with the stunning Istria region in Croatia also featured in the top nine cheapest resorts, with its total coming to £105.25 at the stunning Porec resort where dinner has become almost 50% cheaper in the last twelve months.
With prices in Sunny Beach falling year after year, the strong pound will continue to work in holidaymakers' favour this summer to help their money go further.
Andrew Brown of Post Office Travel Money said: "Paying for meals is likely to have the biggest impact on the family budget. Price variations in popular destinations are much greater than you might expect so those who have still to book would be well advised to do some homework to find out where feeding the family will cost least.
For those on a strict budget, Sunny Beach looks to be unbeatable value. However, competition between restaurants in Sorrento and Porec means that families visiting these resorts will pay a lot less than a year ago."
