A new project introduced with funds by the Sozopol municipality was launched earlier this month which provides all guests to Sozopol with free internet access across the popular seaside resort. The company which maintains the service reported that after only a few hours after the service was introduced, 1150 people had already used it. The WiFi service starts from the old town in Sozopol through to the Budzhaka district and many tourists are already enjoying the opportunity to message, call and email friends and family whilst enjoying their summer holiday, free of charge. The resort of Albena, Bulgaria were delighted to announce the recent opening of the very first beach library in the European Union and only the third of its kind in the world. Located near the Hotel Kaliopa, the new beach library boasts 140 shelves with over 2500 books available in more than 10 languages. Some great news arrived in the form of cranes and diggers this week in Pamporovo as construction began on a brand new lift facility due to be completed before the start of the upcoming winter season. The new 4-seated lift was announced by executive director of Pamporovo AD Mr. Marian Belyakov and the total cost of the project is expected to be around the 3.5m Euro mark (£3m). The resort of Pamporovo is hoping the new 1km lift will enhance the infrastructure within the resort along with the ski track measuring 1200 meters about to be prepared with an artificial snow inflow in the near future. Worried about ever increasing travel prices in Europe? Sofia not say TripAdvisor, there is still value to be found... According to a recent study conducted by TripAdvisor, Sofia, Bulgaria tops the list as one of the cheapest places to go if you are looking for a great value city break. Of the 49 cities worldwide included in the study, the Bulgarian capital offered the best deal for a one-night stay in a four-star hotel. London was one of the most expensive in the survey costing almost three times as much as Sofia. Last month a touring party of former Aston Villa football players and special guests headed over to the the Bulgarian capital, Sofia for a weekend of fundraising in aid of the "Children of Bulgaria" and support of Stylian Petrov the former Aston Villa captain. In March 2012, Petrov was diagnosed with acute leukaemia, putting his football career on hold to have treatment. In May 2013 he announced his retirement from the game and in August 2012, it was announced that Petrov's leukaemia was in remission. This weekend an Aston Villa Old Stars Xl will be taking on a Bulgarian Legends Xl in Sofia to recognise the contribution of Aston Villa club captain and former Bulgarian captain and international Stiliyan Petrov, who was diagnosed with acute leukaemia last year. This week in Sofia, Bulgaria over 1000 residents & visitors to Sofia took part in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the most people dyeing Easter eggs at one time. The egg dyeing started at 12 midday and lasted for just 3 minutes, setting the new world record for the most people dying eggs, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com. The organizers of the event provided 2700 eggs, 200 litres of egg dye and 2200 T-shirts for the participants. According to the new Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer, Bulgaria resort costs are the sixth cheapest among the world's most popular holiday destinations.
