Well, we sent a crack team to check out a selection of luxury hotels along the Black Sea coast…(it’s a difficult job, but hey, someone has to do it!). This is what they came back with…
First, let’s define luxury. Of course one person’s idea of luxury isn’t the same as someone else’s, but generally we would say a luxury hotel would be an high grade 4 Star or 5 Star hotel offering luxurious accommodation, by that we mean larger than usual rooms, usually carpeted, a thick and very comfortable mattress on a large double bed, excellent quality food and a wide selection of facilities. Well that’s a good start because Bulgaria has plenty of these hotels!
So after an exhaustive search (er hem!) these are the hotels we would consider to be ‘luxury hotels’…
Sunny Beach
Melia Hotel Sunny Beach – 4 star all inclusive
The Melia Hotel Sunny Beach is a high end 4 star hotel, it is certainly a luxury hotel, especially the ‘level’ service offered by Melia where there’s coffee machines in the corridors! The food is epic, there’s numerous restaurants and swimming pools and it’s a short walk to the beach.
Secrets Sunny Beach Resort & Spa – 5 star all inclusive
This 5 star ‘adults only’ hotel is located on the beach in the northern end of Sunny Beach, near St Vlas. The main restaurant has a terrace with breath taking views across the bay to Nessebar plus there are two a la carte restaurants serving sea food and Italian cuisine. There are also numerous ultra inclusive bars. To seal this hotel’s reputation as a premium hotel it has an outdoor and indoor swimming pool plus a spa centre.
Dreams Sunny Beach Resort & Spa – 5 star all inclusive
This hotel is the family friendly sister hotel to the Secrets Sunny Beach Resort & Spa. It’s surrounded by lush gardens and is located on the beach. There is a main restaurant and four a la carte restaurants. There a five, yes five, swimming pools and a children’s pool with water slides. It even has teen and children club’s to keep the whole family happy.
Hotel Helena Sands – 5 star bed & breakfast
The Helena Sands is described in our brochure as ‘majestic’ and it with good reason. The hotel complex covers 3 acres, there is one huge swimming pool and an indoor swimming pool or if you prefer the beach it is only a few steps away. You can play various sports including table tennis and volley ball and after that you can relax in the spa. This hotel is a genuine luxury hotel.
Hotel Helena Park – 5 star all inclusive
The wonderful Hotel Helena Park is next to its sister hotel, the Helena Sands. It is slightly back from the beach, but only 150 metres. You can use the wellness and fitness centre in the Helena Sands. A very good hotel, certainly luxury, and a reasonable price for a 5 star hotel.
Barcelo Royal Beach Hotel & Residence – 5 star all inclusive
Located in the heart of Sunny Beach and only a few metres from the beach, the Barcelo Royal Beach Hotel is a wonderful hotel, and certainly a luxury one. The rooms are large and luxurious, there are several quality restaurants and a choice of Facilities and of course an indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
St. Vlas
Voya Beach Resort – 5 star all inclusive
A stunning 5 star hotel located on the beach and near the yacht marina. The hotel has a main restaurant plus several a la carte restaurants and numerous ultra all inclusive bars serving imported alcoholic and soft drinks. Yes this hotel is most definitely a luxury hotel.
Nessebar
Hotel Sol Nessebar Palace – 5 star all inclusive
The Sol Nessebar Palace is the centre piece of a most impressive complex. It overlooks the sea and beautifully kept gardens. The food served here is of a very high quality and it has an impressive list of facilities including tennis courts, gym and indoor swimming pool, oh and if you want to go to the beach you can catch a log flume!
Duni
Hotel Royal Marina Palace – 5 star all inclusive
This hotel is the centre piece of the luxurious resort of Duni. It is right on the beach And has a wide range of facilities including a Turkish bath! You can also use the hotel’s ‘motorised’ water sports and the onsite aqua park. We should also say that the food here is fantastic!
Hotel Marina Beach – 5 star all inclusive
This wonderful hotel has a huge outdoor swimming pool, lots of entertainment and guests can use the resorts water sports facilities. The rooms are excellent too, as is the food.
Pomorie
Wave Resort – 5 star all inclusive
This hotel is fabulous! It has an idyllic beach front location and has several swimming pools including a half Olympic size pool, an infinity pool and an indoor swimming pool plus an aqua park. The food is delicious, there’s the main restaurant and two a la carte restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian and Mediterranean cuisine plus lots of bars where you can enjoy local alcoholic drinks. The rooms are excellent too meaning everything about this hotel is luxurious.
Golden Sands
Melia Hotel Grand Hermitage – 5 star all inclusive
This wonderful hotel is a personal favourite of the blog writer! It is certainly luxurious, the rooms are fantastic, being a Melia it offers the upgrade ‘level’ service with this coffee machines in the corridor! The food is excellent too, there’s a main restaurant, several a lar carte restaurants and a snack bar.
Some of the above hotels are included in our ‘Premier Selection’ – when you book one of these hotels you automatically receive a 30kgs per person luggage allowance plus other extras, these change with each hotel but they are things like a welcome drink, fruit and wine in your room on arrival, late check out and we always try, where possible, to make your hotel the first drop off on the coach transfer from your arrival airport, or of course you can book a private transfer.
