Post Office Crowns 2 Bulgarian Resorts Top

Once again the Eastern European resorts of Bulgaria have dominated the cheapest ski destinations in Europe report with both Borovets and Bansko taking the top spots, offering consumers the best value for their money this winter. This welcoming news was announced in the recent Post Office Ski Resort Report which compiles data from leading ski resorts around the continent to put together a comprehensive report detailing which destinations provide the best choice available to clients.

The report found Borovets cheapest when it came to a complete ski package including a six-day ski pass and ski/boot hire for one person, together with ski school (five-six half days) and the cost of one lunch on the slopes plus drinks including coffee, Coca-Cola, wine and beer costing just £448,25 while Bansko came in second place with a total of £453, 09 for the same items.

Another Balkan Holidays ski destination, fourth placed Kranjska Gora in Slovenia came in at £553.40 for the same items, over £489 cheaper than last placed Zermatt which came in at an eye watering £1042,75 for the same items.

Nick Boden, Head of Post Office Travel Money, which accounts for one-in-four UK currency transactions, said: “Consumer research shows that resort costs are a big concern for British holidaymakers and this makes it doubly important to do some homework before booking a ski holiday because the price of lift passes, equipment hire and tuition can vary by hundreds of pounds. Despite rising prices in many resorts, there are great value options to choose from in Eastern Europe, while Italy is the obvious choice for bargain hunters in the eurozone and will appeal to skiers who prefer to head to the slopes in one of the long-established favourites.”

Both Borovets and Bansko are ideal for beginners but also offer challenging red runs for experienced skiers. With growing pressure on the holiday purse, resort costs should be a key factor in deciding where to ski this season. Sterling is currently stronger against currencies for most European ski resorts compared with last year so it is local prices that will make all the difference.

No matter what level of ability you are, you can be assured that a fantastic ski holiday and incredible value for money await you in Bansko, Borovets and Kranjska Gora this winter.
