BANSKO |
 |
|
Bansko is situated in the South Eastern part of Bulgaria, 925 metres above sea level, combining the pristine natural beauty of the Pirin Mountains and the historical atmosphere of the ancient Bulgarian town.
Modernisation began in 2002 leading to Bansko becoming the most modern Bulgarian winter holiday destination. With only 8 km of pistes of in Bansko, one man chairlift and three drag lifts only Bansko has now developed into the leading Winter Resort in Eastern Europe. As a result of the improvements the number of pistes and lifts have massively increased; one of the new lifts is the 8-ManGondola which is the only one in Bulgaria. The multi million euro investments resulted in ski runs of 75 km of overall length.
Three quarters of the area has snow cannon coverage and the only halfpipe of the country has been built here to please all snowboarders.
Bulgaria's efforts to modernise its ski resorts have resulted in international recognition. In 2006, the prize for the ski resort that had most developed was awarded to Bansko by the Great Skiing and Snowboarding Guide.
