The enchanting town of Nessebar is a perfect choice for a holiday this summer. It has everything you could want from a holiday; wonderful weather, glorious beaches, a historic old town, quality hotels and there’s plenty to do when the sun goes down too.
There is lots written about this beautiful town overlooking the Black Sea, mostly by us! We would like to tell you why Nessebar is such a great choice for a holiday and how it has something for most holidaymakers, here goes….
Wonderful Weather and Beaches
As Nessebar is in Bulgaria, a country which borders Greece and Turkey, the weather here is fabulous! The mercury hovers around 30 degrees during the summer, perfect weather to relax by the pool or on one of Nessebar’s beautiful sandy beaches. You can visit a beach in the old town or there are plenty in the new town.
A Historic Old Town
To reach the ‘Old Town’ of Nessebar you walk across a causeway connecting it to the mainland. Halfway is the iconic old style Balkan windmill and then it’s through the old city walls onto cobbled streets lined by old wooden gabled houses, here you really do feel you’ve stepped back in time. Do take time to visit some of the churches and museums where you get a taste of Bulgarian history, especially the 500 years of Turkish rule and then being liberated by Russia in the late 19th century. All this walking means you work up a thirst, which is the perfect opportunity to sit in one of the many pavement café’s and bars where you can enjoy a cool drink while watch the world go by. We also recommend a walk of the perimeter of old Nessebar which is well worth it due to the wonderful views across the Black Sea.
Quality Hotels
We know we are biased, but so many of the hotels in Bulgaria are very high quality and yet such great value for money. Nessebar is no exception, here you have some excellent hotels. The Sol Nessebar Resort has 4 and 5 star hotels all in one resort that has its own beach which you can access on a log flume! These are high quality all inclusive hotels and very popular. There’s also numerous 4 star hotels in the new town, all of them excellent hotels, the Sol Marina Palace even has a rooftop swimming pool. The other 4 Star Hotels are located on a beach so it’s just a few steps down to the glorious soft sand and the wonderful waters of the Black Sea. There are also some hotels in the old town, these are small independent hotels offering a real Nessebar experience. When the Sun Goes Down
Okay, hands up, there’s not something for everyone in Nessebar. If you like nightclubs then head to Flower Street in Sunny Beach! But if you like to venture out as the sun is setting to enjoy a delicious meal there are lots of restaurants in Nessebar serving all sorts of local cuisine. Most have outside seating and some have breath taking views across the Black Sea or to Sunny Beach. After dinner you can take a stroll around the old town and maybe enjoy a few drinks in a bar or café.
Nessebar is known as the ‘Pearl of the Black Sea’, it should be known as ‘Pearl of Bulgaria’ as it really is the jewel in Bulgaria’s Crown.
