With Borovets resort in Bulgaria putting the final touches on what is expected to be a busy opening next month, the resort is delighted to announce the completion of its new six-seater high speed lift the "Martinovi Baraki Express".
The new lift replaces the old 4-seater on the existing line with new technology, significant increase in capacity and speed. The birth of Borovets dates back to 1896, when the Bulgarian King Ferdinand commenced the construction of a hunting lodge in the Rila Mountains called "Royal Bistrica". After its completion it quickly became a favourite spot for summer recreation of the royal family.
The royal family's example was soon followed by many entrepreneurs, bankers and wealthy families from the capital city of Sofia, who also built villas in the surrounding area. On the 15th & 16th of February 2014, Borovets will welcome the world's best alpine skiers to the resort to take part in the men's slalom and giant slalom races. This event takes on an extra significance this winter as it is the last training session for the skiers before the start of the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
